Transition to Practice Programs

CNRP - Carle Nurse Residency Program: This 12- to 20- week (depending on track and unit) program provides orientation, education, coaching, and support to newly graduated nurses entering the workforce in an inpatient setting or nurses who have been away from the bedside for more than five years.  This program allows the opportunity to float to a variety of units to find the unit that interests you the most before making a choice to call your work home.

Carle Health Methodist Hospital Residency Program is designed to help the novice nurse apply theory to practice and bridge the gap between nursing school and the professional setting. Recent grads and student nurses in their final semester are encouraged to apply early. The 12-to-14-week (depending on unit) program provides orientation, coaching and support to make all the difference. Location: Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria IL.

Carle Health BroMenn Medical Center Residency Program is a six-month program that assists the nurse in the transition from student to professional nursing practice. New graduate nurses, and registered nurses who’ve been out of the acute care setting for some time or have limited experience in acute care, are enrolled in the Carle BroMenn Medical Center/Carle Eureka Hospital Nurse Residency program.

Similar program to CNRP but for Ambulatory nursing. This 12-week program provides orientation, education, coaching, and support to newly graduated nurses entering the workforce in an outpatient setting or experienced nurses who desire to work in the outpatient setting. This program allows the opportunity to float to a variety of departments to find the department that interests you the most before you decide which unit to call home.

This 12 week part-time training program offers individuals who have a desire to work in healthcare an opportunity to gain patient care skills through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job, hands-on training.  The program offers 2 options for classes, 4 days/week for the initial 6 weeks of training. Weeks 7-12 will have 12 hour shifts, which can take place on dayshift or nightshift.  Successful completion of the program qualifies employees to work as a Healthcare Technician at Carle Health.

Locations available: Champaign - Urbana, Bloomington - Normal, Greater Peoria

This 12 week training program offers individuals who have a desire to work in healthcare an opportunity to gain patient care skills through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job, hands-on training.  Successful completion of the program qualifies employees to take the CMA exam and work as a Certified Medical Assistant at Carle Health. This program is full-time, Monday-Friday 8am-5pm.

Locations available: Champaign - Urbana, Bloomington - Normal, Greater Peoria, Danville

8 to 11 week (dependent on track) full-time training program offers individuals who have a desire to work in healthcare an opportunity to gain phlebotomy skills through a combination of classroom instruction and on-the-job, hands-on training to prepare you to work as a phlebotomist in the clinic or hospital setting. 

  • Clinic- Variable 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week.  

  • Hospital- Classroom hours are 8-hour shifts, 5 days a week. Once in a clinical rotation, it is 12-hour shifts which can take place on dayshift or nightshift.

Locations available: Champaign - Urbana

This 18-week training program offers individuals who have a desire to work in healthcare an opportunity to gain skills required to be a pharmacy tech through a combination of classroom instruction, online modules, and on-the-job, hands-on training. Successful completion of the program qualifies employees to take the Pharmacy Tech certification exam and work as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. This program is full-time, 5 days a week.

This 28-week full-time training program offers individuals who have a desire to work in healthcare an opportunity to gain skills required to be a Surgical Technologist through a combination of classroom instruction, online modules, on-the-job, hands-on training, Successful completion of the program qualifies employees to take the Surgical Technologist Certification exam and work as a Certified Surgical Technologist at Carle Health. This program is full-time, Monday-Friday 6:45 am-3:15 pm.

Workforce Development Programs

Two-week in-person training program ran monthly for hires into EVS positions. Provides career preparation, learning, and job opportunities for the under and unemployed individuals in the community.

Carle Health partners with local community colleges to bring free GED prep classes on-site to Carle Health team members and their families.

Designed to eliminate barriers for team members to complete their GED, we offer free GED prep classes on-site and cover all four tests that make up the GED exam process including math, science, social studies and reasoning through language arts.

Locations available: Champaign - Urbana in partnership with Parkland College

4 Week online, self-paced training based off Job Readiness and Learning Program, to provide career preparation, learning, and job training for entry level positions at Carle Health.

Locations available: Champaign - Urbana, Bloomington - Normal, Greater Peoria, Olney, Danville

The Returnship is a high-level career experience for office type professionals who have taken an extended career break. This program is designed to re-establish skills, regain confidence, and prepare participants to re-enter the workforce.

Locations available: Champaign - Urbana

2-year Department of Labor Apprenticeship, including paid Related Training Instruction and paid on-the-job training. Apprentice receives incremental pay increases every 6 months. Upon successful completion, apprentice will graduate as a Mechanic 2.

As an Apprentice, team member will be eligible for Tuition Assistance as of first day of employment.

Apprentice will be eligible for additional Tuition Assistance, above the allowable $4,000 annually. All tuition expenses are approved.

Apprentice will be Full-time, paid for 40 hours (which includes the Related Training Instruction).

Related Training Instruction hours to vary each semester.

Partnership with educational partners like Methodist College to recruit current students to employment at Carle Health.

  • Programs include: CNA, Student Nurses,

Supporting internal team members to further their career in healthcare through education.

  • Establishing direct and deferred payments to educational partners for team member tuition, books, and fees.

  • Providing weekly stipends to compensate lost wages from time away from work while going back to school.

Advanced Practice Provider Fellowships

Hospitalist - Acute Care APP Fellowship
The APP Fellowship is a 9-month postgraduate program for nurse practitioners and physician assistants that includes didactic time, a core program of Hospital Medicine rotations and several specialty rotations meant to enhance acute care education. The program provides the APP fellow with an opportunity to further develop critical thinking used to make sound clinical judgment and function at top scope of practice prior to starting their long-term position as an APP.

Primary Care APP Fellowship
New graduates will be supported with a nine-month fellowship designed to reinforce skills and information provided in school and promote a successful transition to full-time practice into Primary Care.

Methodist College

Additional Student Programs

An internship provides practical experience related to a student’s degree. These internships are nonclinical and provide administrative experience in a hospital, clinic or office setting. Internships are unpaid and can meet credit requirements at local schools and colleges.

The Child Life Practicum is designed as an introductory experience for individuals interested in pursuing a career in child life. Through experiential learning and observation of Certified Child Life Specialists, child life practicum students begin to increase their knowledge of basic child life skills related to play, developmental assessment, and integration of child life theory into interventions with infants, children, youth and families.

Job Shadowing at Carle Health provides unique opportunities designed to help individuals learn about health career options as well as the skills that different occupations require. Participants have the opportunity to experience the workplace setting as well as the duties performed by the healthcare worker they are shadowing; however, they will not be permitted to take part in hands-on patient care. Participants will not be able to shadow doctors, PAs, or NPs in this program. Participants can select from two options and must be at least 18 years old for both. Shadower/Observer applicants must submit the application one month prior to desired shadowing dates. Therapy/Observer applicants must complete the application to be an observer or shadower in Therapy Services (PT/OT/SLP) at Carle. Complete the form and click submit at the bottom.
